Default Buying the RIGHT F150????

Test drove a '98 F150 4x4 w/a Triton 4.6, it has low miles, 1 owner, $12k...BUT it has a 3 speed auto. It's got a tow package, so I'm thinking "it should be at least a 3speed with an overdrive" (?)
Those of you who know these things, who have the experience and the buddies in the shops and the friend that wrenches and cusses these things, I welcome your response and experiences.

Is the 3-speed tranny the economy tranny cuz the orig. buyer didn't opt for the available 4- speed? Will I hate driving it when I find out that THAT is the one configuration of engine/tranny/4x4 in the F150 guys in the know DON"T want? Help me out brothers, thanks.... Beanie

Welcome to the sight.
I am sure there will be a few people on here that can answer that question.

Are you SURE its a 3sp auto?

The only 3sp auto I could think of that it could possibly be is a C6. I thought everything had O\D after 97.

Opt for the 5.4L......more power and only like 1MPG difference.

later,
Dustin
