Default cruise control

I have an '02 F150 2WD with 164K miles. My problem is the cruise control has quit working, when I turn it on and hit the set switch it blinks but will not engage. any suggestions. I drive 50 miles to work each day and the cruise is very handy.

How many times does the lamp flash? Also, was the recall 05S28 performed for the speed control deactivation switch?

the cruise only blinks one time. I contacted the local Ford dealer about the recall and was told that it didn't apply to my truck but then that's my kind of luck.

The recall may apply if your trucks build date was 'prior' to 10/31/02 .. But if they ran your VIN then you maynot qualify.. According to the lamp flash codes, 1 single flash means the system has entered the diagnostic mode? Speed control deactivation circuit failure would have been 3 flashes..

Ok, so, you've checked the fuses and the thing doesn't work. Do any lights come on? Can you possible feel the accelerator start to engage, but doesn't keep going then kicks out?
The easiest place to start with is the dash; if no lights come on (which they usually don't) is the deacitvation switch. Just about every Ford made till like last year used these. I know, the recall may not have covered yours, but believe a Ford tech that's made a lot of money off a 0.2 repair under warranty that ALL of these switches are suspect. The rangers were the worst, where the switch really was a major problem. Others not so much, but they were all the same. Check for continuity/no cont. when the switch is resting then when depressed, it should change.
The rest of the procedure for no C.C. involed taking resistance and voltage checks at the servo, and is really involved. Most of the time, you're dealing with a bunch of switches or possilby the servo. All are common on these systems.

I'm about 98% sure it's the deactivation switch. Autozone has a cruise control release switch for 27.99 that I'm thinking about giving it a try and where might I find the deactivation switch.
Thanks for all your help

The jack@$$ at ford are too lazy to help and Pepboys wants 90 to tell me what I already know!!!!

Pretty typical. I don't really consider this to be rocket science, but I'm constantly amused to see how highly people think of themselves.
I've always wanted to help people, and if any info I can provide helps, then I'm thrilled. I've always said that I never introduce myself as "Mark, Senior Master Technician", as I can still stub my toes with the best of them.
Good Luck!
