Exclamation deactivating anti-theft car horn alarm

I recently acquired a 2006 Ford Escape. I was given 2 sets of keys already activated. I really didn't know how to fully use them. Last nite the police came 3x's from complaints of the horn alarm sounding every 1/2 hr. for 6 hours. They disabled the car battery to stop the noise. I've been reading the car manual as to deactivate the alarm system. Will removing the batteries from the fobs stop the alarm system from going off. I am perfectly content in using the keys manually and not using the Fobs. Please advise, I really don't want to reprogram the system in the car. Thank you!
