Default E150 Cargo Newbie

Hello, just acquired a 99 Econoline E150 with the 4.2L with 301k on the clock, has very little wrong.
Lifter tick (could need oil change) needs a wash in and out, ABS light is on (brakes are wee spongy but not terrible) Crack in windshield, radio does not work.

Sits on some old skool mags! Front suspension fully redone, all new tires! Paid 500 bucks!
I will be selling the rack on top for $150 as well.

Do you have 4WABS (4-wheel) or RABS (2 rear wheel) or you are not sure? Can you find out? If you have RABS you need to short a wire to ground to retrieve the DTC so you know what to do next, you can't retrieve the DTC even with a capable scanner.
How about red brake light, does it prove out correctly? Check that bulb first, simply step on the parking brake with key in RUN/START position just to check and see if the bulb is good.
Check below for instrument cluster description:

There are a few ways to find out whether you have 4WABS or RABS, 2WD or 4WD has nothing to do with ABS brake.
1) You know where your coolant reservoir is, right next to it you should be able to locate your brake reservoir. Right underneath (1 foot down) your brake reservoir if you see the module and pump that looks like this:

More pics at: https://www.ebay.com/itm/226074110760
Then you have 4WABS.
If you have RABS the module and pump are separate pieces and the module (a black rectangular box) goes inside your dash below your cigar port. You do not need to get to it, you just need to retrieve the DTC from diagnostic connector elsewhere.

2) Check the inner side of your front wheel, do you see the wire for ABS sensor that looks like this?

You can tell what a brake hose is can you? The abs wire should have a wire loom on the outside.
If you have this on your front wheel then you have 4WABS.

If you have 4WABS simply use a capable scanner to retrieve the code.
If you have RABS you can't use a scanner to check for codes you have to count the number for flash on your yellow ABS light on cluster.
You said a functioning radio is most important to you, ABS light you don't care. So your goal here is to get just the false code, fix it or not is up to you.

I asked you previously about RED brake lamp, then you replied "ABS Light is on yes". ABS light is yellow, not red.
I gave you instructions previously to test the RED brake lamp you ignored that. I need to find out if your RED brake lamp is blown or not.

Now, to retrieve the DTC please follow directions below:

Where is the diagnostic connector?
Underneath dash on passenger side, remove the passenger side knee panel, then the metal knee panel support in the back, then you will see a vertical black plastic cable management trim, the diagnostic connector is hidden behind the cable management trim, feel by hand you should be able to locate it. Look at the pic below:

Then follow instructions above and separate the connector and short it to chassis ground, once you get the flash count number let me know then I can give you more details on that.

My 3rd tail light was blown the wiring is all weird from previous owner, I'll check into that later, I have 1 of 2 3rd brake lights working, I most certainly didn't ignore you, I had the site admin fix the cadence trigger which messed up my posts, also I don't recall saying anything about a RED light on dash other than my ABS light being on which indeed is orange. I didn't ignore messages, I can't work on my vehicle at my apartment, plus it's adverse weather out and I'm not able to crawl under and check right now. I can tomorrow when I go vacuum out the van at my aunt's

To further clarify, just the ABS light is on no red brake light
Hanky went in on the radio is connected to the CAN and something about that, I have not been feeling well today.

The brakes good minus the light spongey feel, they hold pressure quite well. It could be a wire or dirty sensor or low fluid when the previous owner replaced the whole front suspension prior to purchase.

3rd brake light issue please start a new thread, and only in "econoline E-series" forum then we can submit diagrams and let you know the procedures to troubleshoot the issue.
This "New Member Area" forum is really for those to introduce himself, hobbies, and what car he drives. Your 1st post mentioned too much of problems on your specific E150, you should have started this at Econoline forum instead. (it'd be nice if you can inform the admin to move this there). Same for your radio issue at audio forum, unlike a general tip and trick on how to apply dynamat, yours is too specific and Econoline forum is more appropriate as well.

I know you just bought this van you said it has very little wrong and I know you can't drive without a radio but let me ask you do you keep it if you have to spend $3000+ to get everything fixed?
What if you need to get it towed in the middle of your long trip. Always check your braking system first. If you van can't start worse case it's fine being stationary in the carport at your apartment, no harm done and just look for another vehicle to drive.
If your van can't brake and stop when needed in the middle that can be a major disaster. What else is more important than braking system, it's your instrument cluster, you need to do the bulb check test on all bulbs make sure they all prove out correctly. So when you get a chance to check on your red brake light, check other bulbs too. Later on if you want to upgrade all those to LED, start a new thread as well.
