The materials and workmanship of this KARR security installation are still very disappointing. Kearny Mesa Ford sold me this system when I purchased a new F150 from them in 2017 (see first photo). Southwest Dealer Services, the company behind the KARR security system, recognized their error then and a manager came to my house with the tech to fix the error. The problem is, tucking the wires behind the heat shield was not in fact fixing the error.
Now, fast-forward a few years to the present when my factory-issued battery is due for replacement and the warranty on the security system has expired. My truck would not start, not after a jump and not after installing a new battery. I had the truck towed to my new local Ford dealership in Arizona and they shared photos 2-6 with me, pointing out that the KARR security system wires were in fact speaker wires and that the faulty security system was what was keeping my truck from starting. They informed me that they had to remove the KARR security system in order for my truck to start. Had I known that my security system would only last as long as my vehicle’s battery, I would not have purchased it.
The helpful staff at Kearny Mesa Ford reimbursed me for the tow and the costs to remove the faulty security system so that my truck would start, but I am still concerned that this dealership may still be peddling KARR security systems that use speaker wires and might leave drivers stranded when their batteries die and/or are due for replacement.
