Exclamation Murtsrods

Retired, drive 57 ford fairlane 500, 2dr ht, dohc 4.6 lincoln, crown vic front suspension, ps, pb, disc brakes front and rear, 3.25 gears. Also have '36 chrysler
coupe with soc 4.6 engine, mustang 11 front end and 98 must locking rear end, also 26 nash roadster set up for 302 with mustang front end and 9" rear.

Have blown headgasket on dohc and upon teardown discovered something that is not covered in ford manual. Why do intake and exhaust cams on front end have key ways in them and also in secondary chain sprockets but no key. Same condition on lincoln continel dohc engine? Is the torque on the bolts on sprockets supposed to be sufficient to keep the cams from moving?
