New here. Buying an old cop car what do you think?
The Police Department in my area is selling there old cop cars and im thinking about buying one. There are two 2008 Crown Vitorias that will be sold in a closed auction.
I Know most cop cars are abused pretty bad but this police department doesn't do much or have many calls to respond to so I bet the cars are in pretty good shape.
Questions:
1) What kind maintenance would be due or needed.
2) What does this mean in the vin? 2FAHP71V48X10XXXX (V48)
3) Most important-What would a 2008 crown vic go for at aution? I was thinking of putting in my closed bid at $2,750. What do you think?
4) What is to high for one of these? I was thinking aything over 120K is too much.
5) If the police department does not allow a test trive or have any info on the condition of the cars drivetrain could they legally sell me junk? The car is listed as-is no warranty given or implied.
Any and all advice is welcome. If there is a better section to post this in let me know.
Thanks.

I have a 2003 Police Interceptor that came with 76,000 miles on it. Runs great. Looks good. Most police agencies unload thier cars at or around 110,000 miles. Yet, they are in great shape. Maybe minor blemishes from normal wear and tear. Most agencies will give you the service records with the vehicle. If a local auction is handeling the sale, you can get the service records from most agencies directly. The price at an auction for a 2008 is around $3200.00. You may have to out bid the :TAXI COMPANIES". If the unit is at a car dealer, be prepared to shell out $7000.00 plus for one. Good Luck.
