Default Crankshaft

The machinist polished my 292 1964 crankshaft but he did not mic the crankshaft and gave me standard bearings but when the oil pressure would only come up to 20 lbs we new something was wrong. We thought at first the oil pump was defective so the machinist/parts store sold me a new oil pump. Still the oil pressure did not come up. So we dropped the pan and could feel the push rods shift ever so slightly side to side. We put some plastic gauge under the number one piston cap bearing and sure enough the plastigauge did not even widen at all. Normally would the machinist be responsible to check the crankshaft to see whether the standard bearings would work or not?
