Default Starter issue with a t5 swap HELP

Ok I'm trying to make a 2000 3.8l t5 from a mustang to a 1985 302. I'm using the 3.8l bellhousing, I bought a 164 tooth flywheel and clutch from a 1992 f150-5.0, I've been told by different people that I need to use the 3.8l starter, then others say I need to use a mid ninety's f150 starter for a manual transmission. I have both starters and both grind slightly and the Bendix won't disengage. Does anyone know from experience what I need to do to fix this problem? Thank you
