How far 'off center' is the steering wheel? Significant sheet metal damage?
Depending on how hard it was hit, hard to know what actually needs replacing. But, when a shop deals in steering or chassis damage most won't cut any corners given their liability is something were to happen. Doesn't mean that repair number is any deal. Nobody likes come backs either.
Loose ball joints, rod ends are common wear points, and probably were in existence prior to it being hit. When being hit, if the steering was thrust or impact forced against its stop it could easily damage a rack/box and even frame issues. Seen quite a few splined shafts twisted like a barber pole..If the steering works fine other than the wheel being off slightly, they may be able to correct with an alignment only. They may/may not be willing to attempt a correction of sorts. If the wheel is well off it's normal clocked position, then a game changer. If the ball joints are slight on the wear/play, as well as tie rod, they could probably still get it to align, but no guarantee as to other concerns, conditional head shake, or unusual tire wear being one or another of them. We used to do quite a few contractors trucks that were,, well, worn in! Get'm close as possible.. If its safe, not safe,, you/they would have to determine..
