Default winter is near..... what should i do for traction?

hey guys. im running a 97 2wd stand V6 4.2

we have already had bad ice spells were i live but not much snow. my truck handles pretty good but i find that when im at a complete stop, and i try to go..... the rear tires just spin and dont grab at all... i even try starting off in 2nd gear and its stll pretty bad. when i have a full tank of gas it does have better traction, but i think it could still be better. what do you recomend? more weight in the back? ( if i do put more weight, how much do u recomend? ) or is there something i can do to the vehicle?

thanks

Danny

I use about 6 cyinder block's.[hr]If you live in a bad area you might want to get a good set of snow tires or studded tires for the rear.

With winter here and a great lack of traction the best thing to do is either get some sand bags and put them right over the rear axle in the box, drop your rear tire pressure to about 22-25psi, this will give you lots of traction for little to no money, or as the other gent said, some cinder blocks, but I don't recomend that unless you have a really good sure fire plan to keep them from sliding around all over the place, atleast with the sand bags you can throw a tarp strap over top or some ratchet straps. But that's the best money saving way to do it.

Hope that helps.
