Default Help 1995 2wd ranger won't crank

My son's 1995 ranger 3.0 liter 5 speed. Turn key and can hear click a relay. Changed solenoid on fender thinking that was it. With the key on can use a screw driver on solenoid and starts right up. After changing solenoid does same thing. Don't think its the ignition because you can hear it in the relay underhood. Any help would be appreciated

Don't forget the circuit from the ign switch to the starter relay must go through the clutch safety switch. If there is any resistance in the wires or connections it will not allow enough current to fully engage the starter relay. Worth checking !
