I'm a dyed in the wool Blue Oval man from way back. First car was a '54 Mercury my brother and I bought for $50. Next was a '63 Ford Galaxie 500 4 door that I bought used in '69 for $900 when going to college. Had a 289 motor and a hugh trunk, but no AC or FM radio either. Next in '75 I bought a '71 Torino Fastback for around $1,700 with a 289, 2 barrel carb, no AC, and black vinyl seats. Boy was that a hot SOB during the summer but the motor was rated at 190 HP and it would get up and go when you jumped on the gas. Finally in '81 I bought my first brand new car, a Fairmount Futura with AC, AM/FM cassette, Cruise Control, etc. but I made the mistake of getting the in-line 6 cylinder motor. Paid about $12,000 for it I believe. Talk about sticker shock! Car was nice but it wouldn't get out of its own way and you had to turn off the AC if you had to pull out into traffic from a dead stop. Kept it though until it had 80,000 miles on it and I finally decided that the Mustang GT was the next car I would have. Got my 88 GT with AOD new for about $15,000 in December 1987 and still have it today as my drag racer. I don't ever plan on getting rid of it either. It was a great car on the street, but as I did more mods, it got to be so much fun I figured I better take it off road or I would get way to many speeding tickets with it and I got my share that's for sure. Bought a '97 F150 XLT pickup with the 4.6 L engine for $23,000 and should have gotten the 5.4 L but I didn't know I would have an enclosed trailer for my racer car, thought I would get an open one instead but got a good deal on an the enclosed one I still have. I'm currently looking at getting a new F350 dually with the diesel engine and all the good stuff to tow with as I'm retired now and can pretty much do whatever I want to do now since I'm single and don't have any money worries. It's amazing how much money you can save by staying single! LOL
