Renting a car across Peru for a month
Alright, so I am mapping out a monster trip through Peru, landing in Lima, then heading up the coast to Mancora, and after that cutting through the mountains all the way to Cusco. Buses are way too slow for this kind of loop, so I need my own wheels for at least three weeks. Anyone sorted a long-term rental there without getting completely ripped off?
For a trip that long, you definitely want to book ahead through an aggregator, so you can compare rates from different local fleets and lock in unlimited mileage before you even land in Lima. Also, grab a proper SUV for the mountain sections, a low clearance sedan will bottom out the moment you leave the coastal pavement. You can rent a car in Peru right here https://getrentacar.com/en-US/peru .
Double-check the spare tyre has actual air in it before you leave the lot, rental companies in Lima love to hand over a car with a flat spare, and you really do not want to discover that on a dirt road at four thousand meters with no signal.
