that engine is no slouch as far as power goes I think they got it right with matching engine size with gear ratio to the drive wheels. if I mash the gas the car takes off like a race car and gets out of the way in a hurry. I just don't trust it on long distance trips because that P1744 code comes up in the message center. and no check engine light as of yet. y'all know I don't baby anything as far as engines go. if it's going to blow it will do it under normal circumstances. I'm not going to use it like a truck because I already have one of those

If you get some spare time it might pay to look on the transmission at all the plugs with wires and check for any corrosion or pins partially pushed out. What year is your Lincoln?

2000 is year and I'm thinking that if I start looking around that thing I might find more than I can handle and I'll let it go back because I don't want to make more problems than I already have. besides, they didn't leave enough room for someone to their big hands anywhere near it. It's like you have to pull it all out to gain any access to anything. and, I would not really know what to look for as far as seeing any plugs to disconnect. the fluid is damn near black and smells like it's completely burned up. I like most all people don't pay attention to transmission unless they give trouble like not moving or slipping. I don't get into those things that deep if it goes beyond the valve body and that switch does just that according to all data. and I was taught by my daddy not to mess around with those things it's always better in the long run to leave it to the pros

Automatic trannys ...IF the fluid stays cool and clean you will never ware out the hydraulics. Change early and often.
