Default Flickering lights and surging RPMs

Hello everyone. My first post here. I have a 2007 Ford Freestyle and I have had very good fortune with it. We just repacked the battery and alternator with brand new motor craft parts. Now the rpms surge and the headlights continue to flicker. Here is a video of it.

i would greatly appreciate any help.

Because the charging system is controlled by the vehicle's computer, it requires a thorough check of the entire system.
The computer controls the alternator which determines how much output it will put out.
So, we know the alternator is charging, but we need to see if the computer is sending the correct info or is the alt doing something on it's own.

I could say yes, and spend your hard earned $$$, but ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,if you didn't have the flickering problem before changing the alt, there is a good possibility the replacement alt has a problem.

If you would , can you please provide the whole story of ,,
what was the original problem and was it a crapshoot to replace everything?
Where did you get the replacement alt?
The battery shouldn't cause the symptoms you are seeing.

Driving back from out of town the car died. We had it towed and the battery was parasitic and the alternator wouldn’t charge. So we replaced both. That’s the whole story lol.

There is more to this story and that is ,
where did that alt come from ?
Did you or someone else install it?
The answers to those questions may provide a clearer view .

I said they were original motor craft parts. So I thought that would have been enough to know they came from a ford dealership. My bad.ford installed as well.

The way I see it is :
You have 2 options,
either have the original dealership fix it right or see if a local dealership can do it and bill the time back to the 1st dealership.
You shouldn't have to pay for any work since all this should be covered by a warranty.

Ok. Thank you. The original dealership is over 2 hours away. So I hope a local one will work with me.

Hi BubbaNuker..

The fact that the battery or charge system was a concern prior, may lend to a short/draw not related to the parts changed. Meaning, if the battery had timed/aged out the car shouldn’t have died out on the road while running. If the charging rate was flat, the battery shouldn’t have registered a draw if not running.

Try this,, in the Battery Junction Box , if you remove fuse #17 1(10amp) does the surging and flickering stop?
