1998 Windstar Transmission Jerking
Greetings to all. I have a 98 WS which suddenly stopped running some 2-3 months ago. I really miss using it. Anyhow, when you try to put it in gear , it just sits there. WhenI push the gas pedal and give it gas, it acts like it wants to go but it jerks some and itbarely moves. I noticed when you try to put the WS in the park position,it acts as if it is trying to go into reverse, like the shifter has somehow moved and I can't seem to be able to put the WS in the park position. If I give it enough gas it tends to jerk violently as if it is tring to go intodifferent gears at the same time and makes a rather loud grinding noise. I am trying to see whether there isany possible way to repair it before I haveto dig in and possibly remove the tranny, since I have never done this before.I sure would like to hear some ideas on what I can do to fix the problems with it.Almost forgot, it has the 3.8 engine. Thanks for all your help.

I dont sound good........................ If you opt to pull trans, be aware the front frame clip has to be un-bolted from the body and the body lifted off the frame. If you try to do this at home you basicly need to tip the van until the rear bumper hits the ground and maybe then some.

Sorry I hadn't got back any sooner on this. Computer problems. This sounds like you need some heavy duty tools to pull out the tranny. You think there is anything else I can look for before going to this step?
