Factory wiring question
I have a 2001 Windstar that didn't come with cruise control. I'm wondering if anyone knows if they came with all necessary wiring for options such that I could install a used steering column with cruise controls and have that feature.
Am I off track on thinking this could be possible? Thanks |
The controls on the steering wheel are only part of the system. There are the parts that connect to the engine, stoplite system and so forth. It's not impossible, but a lot of work and additional parts required. Not usually a recommended change.

That makes sense.
Thanks, I think I'll leave it alone. |
You could always add an aftermarket cruise kit, much easier and less cost then trying to go OE..

I looked into a couple of aftermarket kits and wasn't sure about them. In hindsight, they'll be easier than trying to retrofit to factory specs.

Check with your local Ford Parts guy. If they have been around long enough, they may know. I remember a few years ago that Ford offered Cruise control as an accessory for people that wanted cruise control on a non-cruise control vehicle. The accessory consisted of a Plug-n-Play steering wheel with buttons. Only difference between the the two was you didn't have a tilt steering wheel on the accessory unit. It isn't offered anymore since pretty much everything has cruise nowadays. You may find out that the factory cruise wheel may be Plug-n-Play.

Well that would be nice. I'll give them a ring.
Thanks! |
