Second owner. First owner was a geologist with University of Arizona. Owned since 1979. Built especially to pull 26 foot twin engine, twin station Fiberform Cruiser
to Lake Mead and Lake Powell. Averaged 5 MPG pulling boat with Holley, 6-7 with Edelbrock. Sold boat in 2000. Now average 400 miles annually; all in hills and neighboring mountains.
Engine/Drivetrain Modifications:
Engine is rebuilt 410 (390 w/428 crank), 9.5 pistons, RV cam, Offenhauser aluminum intake, Edelbrock 650 Carburetor, dual 2 1/2 exhausts, parallel to rear fender ala 460's. Estimated 325 HP. With Edelbrock 650, mileage has increased to 13.4 highway, 11 town. Rebuilt C-6 with shift kit, stock transfer case. New four-core radiator installed 2009. Added auto trans cooler.
Suspension Modifications:
Started as a heavy half, added heavy duty (Monroe) shocks on rear, and heavy duty (Gabriel) on front. New neoprene bushings completely on front end in 2005.
Wheels/Tires Modifications:
Stock L235x70x15r Wranglers, chrome trim rings and stock small wheel covers, converted from original power steering to 79 Bronco power steering box, used dual steering damper shocks. Added two stock Ford in-bed spare tire carriers (very hard to find) since I spend a lot of time in the mountains and on the desert.
Interior/Exterior Modifications:
Restored to stock. New dash cover, door panels, full, under-seat carpet, NOS seat covers in original color, seat belts and dust covers, new head liner and sun shades, stock AM-FM radio. Re-painted (stock Explorer trim was White over soft blue with wheel trim) to solid white 1995. Plan to restore to original Explorer paint trim this winter. Added chrome rails on bed, painted bed with Rhino liner, added four chrome tie downs on each side of bed. Original owner had rinky-dink spring loaded hooks and I didn't want to fillin the holes at the time.
Future Modifications:
Re-paint to original 74 Explorer paint scheme.
