I had my ABS light on since I bought my X 1999 SOHC 10 years ago, so when my engine rattle returned (see other post). I asked my mechanic to have a look at the ABS light staying on, now the light is gone off permanently.

The 5 chimes come on at startup and randomly esp. when I go over bad / rough roads.

I looked on the net and says a blown ABS warning bulb/light. The airbag light was also staying on. Now both are permanently off. Even with ignition only key position.

I don't know if he fixed the ABS system or only made the light go off, or blew the bulbs. PS brake feel is good and is as before, but have not tried locking the brakes.

What would the method of stopping the chimes be?
