Default How to disable door chimes

I have a 98 Explorer XLT V8 AWD with only one very annoying problem.

I am going to be as detailed as possible.
The door chimes stay on anytime the door is open until I insert the key and turn it to the on position.
It doesn’t matter if the headlights are on or off. The only thing that will stop it from a constant DING DING DING DING DING DING DING DING DING is to put the key in the ignition switch and turn it to the on position.
This is a Real Pain anytime I want to clean the interior or do anything else where I want the front doors to remain open.

I have read many many posts about this problem and I still find one thing missing from these posts.
The answer to the question how Kill the darn thing?
Again this is a 98 model year XLT awd and No it doesn’t matter if you jiggle the key till the cows come home it doesn’t help nor does spraying any type of lube on the door switch.
All I want to do is find out where the speaker or whatever it is that is making this chime and put an end to it with whatever means are necessary I am not opposed to using weapons of mass destruction at this point and I don't care what chime activists want to protest this thing has to DIE!!
Please just tell me where I can find this box, speaker or whatever you want to call it so I can put it and me out of our misery once and for all.
Thank you.
I’m sure there are many others out there who will appreciate any and all help in putting an end to this noisy lil pests life.

I have a '97 Sport that does the same thing. I dunno what to disable or where. Somebody actually got paid to design, engineer 'n manufacture those stupid things. Some corporate production committee agreed to make that happen... 'n they got paid too. I hope all of these miz'rable cretin's are mong the first to hit the bricks with the current Ford layoffs. I've never read anything anywhere... in any venue where anyone actually WANTS bells, chimes, buzzers and lights that won't time out. There has to be a fuze... but that fuze prob'ly controls somethin' else essential.

Their is a single wire on the underside of the steering column under all the plastic... Unhook it and see if the chimes go away. I think the problem is in your ignition switch..it is worn out..

hey, i have a 2003, so i don't know if this will work for yours...but it is worth a try:
Deactivating/activating the BeltMinder feature
Before following the procedure, make sure that:
• the parking brake is set
• the gearshift is in P (Park) (automatic transmission) or the neutral
position (manual transmission).
• the ignition switch is in the OFF position
• all vehicle doors are closed
• the driver’s safety belt is unbuckled
• the parklamps/headlamps are in OFF position (If vehicle is equipped
with Autolamps, the Autolamps feature MUST be turned off.)
Read steps 1 - 9 thoroughly before proceeding with the
deactivation/activation programming procedure.
BeltMinder deactivation/activation procedure
To reduce the risk of injury, do not deactivate/activate the Belt
Minder feature while driving the vehicle.
1. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN (or ON) position. (DO NOT
START THE ENGINE)
2. Wait until the safety belt warning light turns off. (Approximately 1–2
minutes)
• Steps 3–5 must be completed within 60 seconds or the procedure will
have to be repeated.
3. Buckle then unbuckle the safety belt three times, ending with the
safety belt unbuckled. This can be done before or during BeltMinder
warning activation.
4. Turn on the parklamps/headlamps, turn off the parklamps/headlamps.
5. Buckle then unbuckle the safety belt three times, ending with the
safety belt unbuckled.
• After step 5 the safety belt warning light will be turned on for three
seconds.
6. Within seven seconds of the safety belt warning light turning off,
buckle then unbuckle the safety belt.
• This will disable BeltMinder if it is currently enabled, or enable
BeltMinder if it is currently disabled.
7. Confirmation of disabling BeltMinder is provided by flashing the safety
belt warning light four times per second for three seconds.
8. Confirmation of enabling BeltMinder is provided by flashing the safety
belt warning light four times per second for three seconds, followed by
three seconds with the safety belt warning light off, then followed by
flashing the safety belt warning light four times per second for three
seconds again.
9. After receiving confirmation, the deactivation/activation procedure is
complete.

find the fuse that goes to the door chimes and take it out i did it with my jeep and both of my explorers easiest way is to just take out fuse that way you can put it back if you want them back on it
