Default what is a good upgrade?

i have a 95 aspire with a 4 cylinder motor not sure what size. so far gas mileage sucks it went through 1/4 tank just running it for a few minutes. is this car suppose to have catalytic converters and an o2 sensor? this car has neither.

Yep, we’re here..

The engine displacement was 1.3. It did have O2 and cat. O2 was mounted low near the man exhaust flange
Cat was at the end of the extension pipe off the manifold.
If you burned 1/4 tank within a few minutes, it would seem there would be a leak somewhere. To burn that much fuel in a short time, even under excessive rich conditions shouldn’t see a huge fuel drop of a quarter of the tanks capacity.

i am not sure how accurate the gas gauge is. and when i got the car the exhaust pipe was disconnected at the manifold and about halfway down soi got a flange gasket and pushed the pipe together. it sounds a little quieter but it is missing a few things. i also note that the switch on the transmission is broken as well so it is back to pull and save fr or the transmission switch and the proper exhaust except for the catalytic converter they won't sell those.

also, the vacuum line to the charcoal canister was disconnected and filled with mud so i cleaned it out carefully, it seems to run smoother. still haven't fixed the transmission switch. that's payday if i remember it.
