Review on Android radio Ford Mondeo
I looked for quite a while before buying this Pumpkin Android 9.0 head unit for Ford. I have Ford Mondeo MK 4 Titanium trim level. It comes with Convers+ display and built-in Bluetooth functionality. I was aware that I may have to sacrifice some things if I replace my stock radio unit as it shares a lot of functionality with the Convers+ display. Anyway, I decided I will gain more so it was worth it.
Overall, more things worked than expected. There are plenty of videos of how to disassemble your central console and remove the old unit. I had to cut some plastic pieces in order to fit into the new radio. I've heard this is only necessary if you have a particular kind of central console and stock radio unit. The problem was in the antennas for GPS and WiFi signals. The cuts are at the back of the console and were relatively small and IMHO shouldn't be much of a problem. Tested the unit without attaching external mic and it was working, but with the external mic quality was better, so at the end had to wire it up as well. My stock radio comes with two antennas using fakra sockets (one of the antennas is powered) and this unit uses ordinary DIN adapter. I had to look for a converter. There are a lot of such adapter cables for VAG cars. As far as I understood VAG cars come with two powered antennas, don't know if this is a problem but so far it works. Radio signal seems slightly worse but you will notice this only in low coverage areas. Honestly, I don't have any problems with it.
Buttons on the steering wheel work, you can even select the radio as the source from the steering wheel(though I wouldn't be able to). There are some glitches here and there, but as a whole, it works quite well. So far I can even connect to the car's own Bluetooth module, but apart from browsing contacts and being able to answer/reject calls using the lever on the steering wheel console you can't do much else. What I currently do is connect both to the car's Bluetooth(in order to be able to use the buttons for answer/reject) and to the radio's Bluetooth. Sometimes using this technique will mean you will answer using the car's Bluetooth so there won't be any sound and you will have to switch manually from the phone to the sound source/destination. Sometimes it works without glitches. If you disconnect from the car's Bluetooth you won't be able to answer the calls and the icon for the phone on the Convers+ display will be grayed out. According to the support, I can manually map the buttons to answer the calls using Pumpkin's Bluetooth, but you have to change cable connections at the back of the unit and for that, I have to again disassemble the central console, so haven't tried it yet.
As for the parking sensors, after installing this unit I had two Parktronic sounds, the built-in one and the ones coming from a buzzer in the Canbus module of the android radio. Had to remove the buzzer to fix that. I've heard that if you have Mondeo with the model year 2012 or something like that you won't have any Parktronic sounds so the buzzer isn't such a bad idea. A little annoying but better than nothing.
I also bought a wired reverse camera. Installing this was very, very difficult. Consider using wifi camera as it's very hard to actually get the wire from the fifth door to the interior of the car.
What I can truly say is that I am very impressed with the support. They were very helpful and answered my questions promptly and as best as they could. They even offered to send me a CanBus without a buzzer in order to use only my car's built-in sound system when parking.
I am loving the look of my car. It definitely makes it look more up to date. The unit is fast and so far I haven't noticed any software glitches and problems.
