RE: speaker upgrade
ok, if i put...lets say 150w speakers in the doors and the system only pushes 50 to each speaker. will i hear a difference and what kind do i need to feel the difference? i want the sound of bass, but with out installing a 12 in the back.

RE: speaker upgrade
they will sound more clear but won't really get any louder unless you install an amp. To get better bass response, you will need to seal your doors with sound deadening, also I would stay away from rockford speakers, they used to be pretty good but are very overrated nowadays, To get the best sound, I would look at installing some component speakers, you will just need an adapter, I think you would be very happy with them. You may also want to look into a smaller sub, say a 6.5 or an 8, there are some very good options out there that you can get good lows without having a 12

RE: speaker upgrade
Not true... Look at the sensitivity on the speakers ratings. Sensetivity is measured 3 ft with 1 watt input, that will say give you a 88db sensetivity, if you double the power you get 3 more db, double again and 3 more db...and so on... Typically 50 watts to dorr speakers is more than enough, yes there are some guys running lots of power, to each his own. In my 99 Expedition I have the factory amp from the Premium system running Infinity Kappa's front and rear, and two Bazooka 10's for the bottom end( run by another amp). It sounds awsome! I would if I were you, get a MXT thunderform or something similar for the bottom end, and run 2 good pair in the doors, like RF, MB Quart, Infinity, etc... Don't skimp!
So back to the original question, yes different speakers may be louder than factory speakers, and I have never seen an instance where they are not, even with the same power.( Factory speakers are not very efficient!)

Sound Deadening can be installed in many ways to improve performance. A single sheet attached to the metal door skin and around the speaker acts like a gasket to ensure an airtight seal. The added mass of the deadening can improve the speaker's perceived bass output and midrange accuracy.
