Default Chevy Pistons in a Ford 302

Anyone heard of people doing this? I picked up a Engine from a storage buy that was being built by someone that was doing what looks like a very nice job of this before they stopped for some reason. Alls I know is the pistons in it are TRW-2441F30 which are Chevy 327/350 dished pistons for a blower or s/c. They are on Ford rods so someone had to machine these to fit the bigger pin diameter. It has 351W heads from 1970 that have been ported nice and thats as far as they got. Is this something thats done by some for a reason or was this just one individuals idea for performance reasons on his own.[sm=nerd.gif]

i actually have a buddy that did this. he had the machine the pistons like you said. i didnt really understand though. hes a chevy man and hates ford, but he was using a ford engine. funny thing is that he sold it to someone that was building up a dodge so that dodge will be a mutt.

to get the required compression and piston skirt distance, ring to piston pin spacing. it is a common practice to mix brands when building a specialized engine… the other option is to have special pistons and rods made at a very high cost…
i have used chrysler rods in a chevy/pontiac.. to get the compression ratio i was after.. it was a 1/8 mile, big block g.t.o.

Yes, I noticed some people who mixed the brands while building special powerful engine. No doubt doing so can cause higher cost but everything goes fine when you built a powerful engine of your expectations.

when swapping parts that are made to factory specs for say a chevy. and you only want to increase, decrease compression. the use of another type engines parts can give you the .15 of a inch you need without the cost of hand made parts... after all most engine parts are made by just a few companies, even the parts in factory engines. chevy rods don't have chevy stamped on them, they are most likely made at the same factory making the ford, chrysler, cat and toyota rods.
the main thing to remember:.... balance all of the rotating, moving parts. after selecting what you are going to use. as using non standard parts will make a engine lose the factory designed internal balance.
