I recently bought a 1963 Fairlane and can't get the glove box to open. The button won't push in. The round key will go in but won't turn. Pressing on the door causes it to move a little so it doesn't seem that there's pressure on the latch. The key opens the trunk so I assume it should work for the glove box.

I bought it at auction so asking the former owner isn't an option.

Any suggestions?

 

What about the ign key ?

Sometimes if you insert the key that will go in , just back it out a hair or two and attempt to rotate it works.

 

The ignition key won't go in.

The slot in the button is vertical. Is that the locked or unlocked position?

 

Most times in the vertical position is locked.

I say most times because people manage to do strange things and we can only hope the former owner didn't change anything.
