Help! Need a rare gas tank!
Note to admin:
I picked the Fairlane/Falcon/Galaxie/Gran Torino forum as it looked like the closest to the car I'm asking about.
If this post belongs somewhere else please move it and let me know. Thanks.

A good friend has a 1973 Ford LTD station wagon (Country Squire trim package) that he really does NOT want
to junk but may be forced to if he can't find a new (or good used) replacement gas tank.
The station wagon uses a smaller tank (18-20 gallons) than the 2-door or 4-door LTD (22-23 gallons)
because the spare tire wheel well protrudes down through the floor and that takes up some space.
A weeks worth of googling and phone calls to several local mechanics and about 15 wrecking yards has
come up dry. It looks like most of the local yards immediately crush anything older than 2000.
He got a quote from a custom tank maker of over $1k.
He cant afford that as a retiree and is surviving on social security and some tutoring income.
His location is southern California, city of Ontario in San Bernardino County but we will travel if necessary.
Thanks in advance for any pointers.
Mike
