Full fuel line pressure release for pump replacement

Full fuel line pressure release for pump replacement
I want to release all of the pressure from my fuel line for fuel pump replacement. Here is my plan of attack. Can anyone let me know if it seems logical?
1) Disconnect neg batt cable
2) Open fuel cap
3) Press pin in schrader valve (using a screwdriver) with a rag over it to catch any fuel spray (release until no more pressure hissing).. Is there a special tool for this? I don't want to damage my valve.
Is that about it?

I've done that before, but did not realize it would let all the pressure out of the line - I guess it does??
Can you make a recommendation on a fuel pressure test guide (meaning the specific tests that should be run) to eliminate the fuel pump as my problem?

A Haynes manual should tell you what pressure you should be running (someone on here may know, too). There is a valve (looks like tire valve stem) on the fuel injector rail that you can hook a guage up to to get what pressure you have.
If you just push the valve center in and fuel squirts out you are most likely fine, but of coarse you don't know for sure unless you measure it.
