I currently purchased a 1995 Contour LX with a 2.5 V-6, auotmatic. The car had been through probate and an estate auction. It has only 49000 actual miles.The car looks as if it is only about 2-3 years old, and rides great. But now for my problem, the check engine light was on when purchased. The code is 551 and 335. I watched the runner while someone speed up the engine and it does not move. I was told the 335 could be from the 551, however today I checked the IAC ( someone told me to just in case it was bad)with jumpers from battery, it clicked, so I assume it was OK. Then I took the vacum hose off the IMRC, plugged a handheld vac to it and the runner did function. So I then proceeded to take the IMRC solenoid off. It shows no reading for OHMS. So I assume this is bad, for the 551 code points to this. But now nobody has this part. The local Ford dealer claims this is unique to the 1995 model, all others models had electric controlled only IMRCs. They claim this is no longer available. Local parts store say " The What" .They also said I probably have the lowest miles 1995 theve heard of. So what to do??? Can I rebuild this thing, I dont see how it comes apart, and the dealer says its not seviceable anyway? Can I chane it over the newer style, will the computer recognize it. What to do? Thanks greatly for any input.
