Default 1985 radiator fluid level

This Ford LTD mid-sized wagon with a V6 seems to run about two inches below cold add line in reservoir and stays just below the outlet tube in the radiator. If I fill it to the add line it is down again in a couple of days. There aren't any leaks showing on the concrete when parked. It had a new radiator put in about 5 years ago. It hasn't ever gotten hot even in Florida but it still makes me wonder. Thanks.

You can probably rent a radiator pressure tester from an auto supply store .After you fill the radiator to the top , connect the pressure pump/tester to the radiator and pump it up to no more that 15 pounds pressure and see what the gauge does. If it starts to lose pressure , look for external leaks, water pump , hoses, etc. If it does not lose any pressure check the coolant recovery bottle for possible leak.

Got under the car and found some green fluid mostly on the bottom pulley and some horizontal tubes. Didn't see any hose leaks though.

Could be the water pump. I would follow hankys suggestion and run a pressure test because that will find the problem for sure.

I plan on having the whole thing checked over anyhow. Sounds like a good idea.

It sounds like something sounds and feels rough especially when first starting in the morning.

I took it to a mechanic and he said it needed a water pump but he didn't pressure test it. He said that 2 long bolts might break off. Anyone know what the chances of that is? Thanks

If they are ceased it could happen, I would suggest using some penetrating oil to aid in the removal of the bolts.

Is a propane torch hot enough?

I think that may cause some more unwanted issues.
