Default auto headlight switch/sensor

The auto light sensor on my 2005 crown vic isnt working right. If the car has been sitting and you start the headlights and dash lights will come on.... if it is raining when you put on wipers the headlights will come on... after the car has been run awhile the headlights will not come on when you start it.. using the manual switch will not turn them on.....Where is this sensor located and can it be changed without going to dealer>

Thanks

Gene

It might be the LCM (Light control Module) I recently learned from way2old that they can be repaired. Sadly they are a dealer item. Sunfish
