Coil Springs
I'm looking for springs for a 2002 CV LX. Factory springs too soft and the car bottoms out over dips in the freeway and parking lot humps. I replaced the shocks with KYB gas-a-just but didn't help Does anyone know the stock spring rate for these cars and what suggestions you may have? I like a firmer ride but not stiff, just a normal firm ride.
What would you recommend, I tried Moog springs and made the car too too stiff and too high. According to research throughout the forums the police spring rate is 700 in front which were way too stiff when I had them installed, unless the LX and police models have different upper and lower control arms and alows the police cars to not be so stiff.
I have been doing research for my 98 and I have found that the coil springs on the cvpi are stiffer then the ones on the civilian cars but that the "ff" springs found on the CNG(natural gas) crown vics are the stiffest and will give you a good amount of rake(back end higher then the front) on the car. They had to be the stiffest to support the added weight of the natural gas tanks in the trunk. I am on the market for a set of FF springs my self but have not been able to find them yet. If you happen to come across a place that carries them let me know please. I hope this info was helpful.
Eaton Detroit makes springs for the Crown Vic there was a magazine article a while ago I think Car Craft. They are available for both PI and civilian models in three different heights stock, 1", and 1.5" lowered. I was thinking of going with a lowered version of the PI model to get a stock height or maybe a slightly lowered stance on a civilian model but get a stiffer spring IDK hope this helps .
