Default Considering a P71 Crown Vic.... what to look for?

So I'm considering picking up a newer Crown Vic with the P71 package. I'm going to try to get the lowest miles as possible (like everyone else). What should I look for when I go to look for these? I'm coming from a 01 Grand Cherokee and I'm amazed at the room these things have. So, suggestions? things to avoid? What are known problems?

Thanks for takin pity on the noob

Thumbs up

Welcome to the site..

May depend on what mileage unit you end up with, and the agency you get it from.

Cruisers usually get serviced regularly, but things like brakes (go through a lot of them), tires, transmissions (depending on how hard their driven) may come into play. So does body damage/repair. Some of the agency's have their own techs for general repairs and servicing or normal wear'n tear items .

I've seen regular beat cruisers beat up pretty bad, and Sergent's or commanders cars pretty clean. Usually the Sergent's cars get rotated into beat service though. Commander or assigned/unmarked units usually get run to a slightly higher mileage but most times aren't subjected to the same severe duty. Lower mileage may not be indicative or a better unit ..

The other usual repairs are ball joints, rear axles and bearings. Some agencies have the luxury of a budget to replace around 50 to 80k on the unit. Our budget has been cut and we are topping 150k on units, we used to sell at 100k. They are a very reliable and safe vehicle, just see if you can get the service records if you purchase one. Good luck.
