The spitting and sputtering is probably due to the plugs and wires needing changed. The P0401 is more than likely the DPFE sensor. Cost is minimal and easily changed. You can do all the repairs yourself. Good luck.

The cleam=ning of the EGR passages under the throttle elbow would be a good thing. Carbon will build up in the passageway and cause the code. Funny, I forgot that as we sold all our 95's a few years ago. Thanks for jogging my memory.

Can anyone please tell me where the DPFE sensor is on a 1999 Ford Windstar, I have to either replace it or the EGR valve. I am pretty sure I know where the valve is but I want to cover all bases. Thank you.
