Default New IAC and Problems Begin

I have a 2004 Mercury Grand Marquis 76k miles, and the infamous humming buzzing sound began to eminate from the engine compartment when I would start the car and begin to drive. Aside from this, no stalling problems or driveability problems.

The last time I had this problem in my 2000 Marquis, I replaced the IAC with one from Auto Zone, and the noise went away with no further problems.

That being said, this time I bought a better IAC manufactured by BWD from Pep Boys, and installed it. This is where my problems began. First, after driving the car a distance, I would then come to a light, and then stop, and then the car would stall out. I had to restart the car. Then after a some miles on the highway with the A/C blowing, I would then get off an exit, and then the car would be on the verge of stalling but did not.

I figured maybe it was some bad gas because I filled up after I bought the new IAC. I then threw in some fuel system cleaner thinking this could be the problem.

Since then, I have driven over 250 miles with the car with the A/C, and the only problem that appears now is that occasionally the red charging light would light for only a second whenever I would park the car in a space and inch forward, and while inching forward, the idle would increase, the car felt like it would stall, then the idle would die down, and the car would be fine.

My problems started with the new IAC, and I feel that it must be defective some how. The problems I am describing are intermittent, too.

Would you agree that it could be a defective IAC? I plan on returning it, and getting a replacement. Could the gas have been bad, too?

The only other thing I would mention is that whenever, I would start the car cold, the idle would start fast then die down with this new IAC installed. With the old one, the car never started this way.

On the highway, the car drives very smoothly.

I would start by re-installing the original unit to see if the problem(s) go away. If not, then it may be coincidental. Also, I would do a "Disconnect the battery" reset to make the computer go thru a re-learning process to see if that helps.
