So I have a 02 CVPI and it’s been having a odd issue I can’t quite track down.
when going over bumps or sudden quick acceleration or hard turns at speed the check engine light flashes and the temp light comes on and the transmission kicks down a gear or two then a few seconds later the light goes out and trans shifts back up and all good.
Weve already looked at most of the wiring but could’ve missed some. Myself being a owner and my father being a ford certified tech have both been slightly stumped other than the fact that it’s kicking into a limp mode for over temping so it does think it’s a real over temp scenario. Any help would be greatly appreciated
none that we can catch, we’ve tried reading it while it happens but it either happens so quick it can’t read or it’s not throwing one at all, if it helps the transmission is also slowly developing a slip
Now is the time to find out why this is happening before the trans goes south.
When was it last serviced ?
well we self serviced it as ford recommended when we looked which was just a trans fluid flush, drain, fill, run, drain, fill just to get a fresh slate and it made little to no difference we also found a connection that had some trans fluid in it so we cleaned it out and it made a difference but only for a few days
Imagine when time allows you to brush your teeth 10 times a day, should you do it. Yes you brush and rinse away the harmful bacteria but at the same time you also rinse away the good bacteria.
When a tranny is not serviced every 60k interval you need to think twice before doing any flush as it can do more harm than good.
What you can do which should help but not necessary fix the issue is to change the habit and style and warm up your engine and at the same time lubricate your tranny by shifting to every gear, like what you would do after an initial fluid fill, for like 10-20 seconds per gear.

I follow that and we understood the risk at the time we tried to do it correctly but now it has gone to just fully shut down the engine, if I hit a bump just right it will kill the engine. Not spitting or sputtering just dead
Have you checked all your mounts, motor mount left/right, and especially the tranny mount? Think about too much play and movement can pull or smash your wire harness causing the issues.
