Default 04 e350 6.0 tranny o/d light blinking

I have a 04 e 350 with the wondefull running 6.0 diesel in it...lol...well right now my issue is the o/d light will start blinking after about 20 minutes of driving then it starts shifting hard.I've got the engine light on as well and the scanner reads p0113 IAT circuit high,p0700 trans control system malfunction...does anyone have any idea what the possible cause is? When it started I was on my way back from pulling my boat back from about a 2 hour haul and it was pretty hilly and hot so im sure it may have got hot.The tranny fluid is not burnt but i've never changed the filters or fluid and it has a little over 100000 miles on it....thanks

A blinking O/D light means the computer has thrown a code. The P0700 code only confirms this. However, a scanner that reads trans codes is needed to know what is that specific code(s).

The P0113 may have been thrown by particularly hot air entering into the throttle body from the engine running on a hot day under load. Or, of course, it could be a fault in the IAT sensor, and/or related wiring. The IAT is a thermistor, so ohmmeter readings can tell if the sensor is defective.

Have that trans code(s) read, before you service the trans, and decide what needs to be done from there. If a shop condemns the trans to replacement/overhaul I would get a second, or even third opinion.

Note: One of the reasons for having the provision to turn the overdrive off is pulling loads. Esp. up hills. It is much easier on the trans to pull a load in a lower gear. Also stops the tendency for the trans to "hunt" between high gear, 1:1 ratio, and overdrive, back and forth. I recommend, when pulling a trailer, and/or carring a heavy load, leave the overdrive off. You may have done this, and still developed a problem. But, it's worth mentioning to all readers of this thread.
