I have an 89 e150 economize conversion van Tahoe package my brake lights don't work when I push the peddle still have blinkers but no hazard or brake lights tail lights come on too also no cruise either I checked the fuses fuse was blown replaced it keeps blowing I put an amp gauge on the circuit every time I turn the steering wheel it pulls about 100 amps for a split second then my meter pops I haven't got into the column yet but what could it be I'm trying to find a wiring diagram for the steering column it's a tilt with cruise control the old wood grain looking style

There's no doubt that a direct short is happening. Might be a good idea to look at the wires that exit the steering column something might have rubbed through there , otherwise you may need to go into the hazard switch assy in the column under the steering wheel. Always, before getting into a drawn out job like replacing the sig switch assy try to make sure there are no wiring problems in the wiring to the stop lites . I would think that is easier to start there.
