Default 1996 5.8 E350 possible vacuum leak

Hi,
im wondering what could be wrong, van seems be ok when the engine is warm, but until then it sputters for the first 10 seconds after i start it, especially if it's been standing overnight or a few hours, starts up with a few cranks, but has a slight miss and terrible fumes until it's warmed up then it's running fine, I'm suspecting a vacuum leak, even though i fixed a bad one a few weeks ago, also the fuel filler neck has a slight drip when filling it so I'm wondering if that causes that issue, planning on fixing it within the next 2 weeks, also another thing that came in my mind was that coffee can canister, where can i find that to see if it's been replaced? i can't find it under the hood, can't see it from below, please help,

I believe it is located on the frame just behind the R/F wheel. It's in a nice place to keep it clean and not miss a single splash or dust storm from the tire.

You are probably on the right track suspecting the Evap system. It is not supposed to purge the canister until certain conditions are met. It could be purging it on start-up causing an overly rich condition.

In checking the evap system , the engine needs to be at a certain temp , RPM etc. and I am wondering if the purge system is purging when cold, which it should not be doing. Did you check it warm or cold just started ?

hi. i checked when engine is warm at idle speed,
how do i check if its always purging?
is it normal for the engine to idle high enough at first that you would rather wait for it to lower before you engage the transmission?
