1996 Ford E1-50 healight only works on high beam
Driver side headlight does not work on low beam, only high. Thought to replace it, but not sure if there may be some other type of switch that is related to the problem or if the low beam is just burned out. Need procedure to pull the headlight or the bulb whichever it is before I go in and start breaking things that are brittle or should not be removed. Also, does anyone know of a problem where just the high beam works that is related to some other switch or component? 96 E150 full size with 351 engine.

The 'high series' or aerodynamic styled headlights use a replacement halogen light bulb removed from the engine bay side of the lamp assembly.. The 'low series' use the old style rectangle glass replacement lamp assembly and is replaced by removing the headlamp door (headlamp cover) alongside of the grille assemby..
A failing multifunction switch can cause the low or high beam function to quit, but would be for both sides/lamps during High/Low selections..
Open the hood and look at the backside of the headlamp body, if you have high series, you should see a lamp locking collar with the H/L connector pointing outward.. Unplug the connector, and rotate the locking collar slightly counterclockwise to remove, pull the bulb straight out once the collar has been removed.. Replacement bulb is installed with the 'flat' portion of the bulbs base upwards..
Here's a pic for clarity.. Ifequipped with low series, I'll repost the info..

Your notes and diagram are exactly correct for what I have. Replaced bulb and all is working fine. Locking collar was tight, but with your diagram, at least I knew how it was supposed to come off and did not break it. Thanks.
