Default 2000 4.2L Qts Of Oil Needed???

In the 2000 Ford Econoline with a 4.2L V-6 (134K miles), how many quarts of oil do you put in? The book says 5qts, but the dipstick is almost at Full with 6qts. The mechanic at ford said some take 5 and some take 6. But it did not look like I was talking to the top brass if you know what I mean. How many qts do you use?

Usually, the better thing to do is go by the oil dipstick and bring the level on the stick up to the full mark (on level ground) and add a little more to fill the new filter once the engine is started and run a few minutes and the level rechecked.

Which book are you looking at? Owners manual list 6 quarts of oil required.

At 6 qts, the dipstick is only halfway between the low and full mark? When I start the engine the low oil idiot light stays on for a few seconds then goes off?
Is that common on vans with the V-6?
