Default 95 e150 needs new engine

First off hello everyone. I am new to the forum.
Well my E150 has little over 200,000miles and it just break down 1 thing after another. Instead of dumping more money to fix the 4.9l i am thinking just getting a rebuilt one over the net. Pricing looks not too bad. around $1500 or so. But since I am going to put in a rebuild engine anyway i was thinking of putting in a bigger engine than another 4.9l I-6.

I would like to drop a 7.5l V-8 (about $1800) in there but I don't know if it will fit. I assume it should but just want to make sure and ask here first. I also assume I would need to get a new computer and a new transmission to go with it. A friend of my says he will install everything and I just need to get the parts. The way I am thinking if I get a rebuilt engine this van can go another 200,000 miles and maybe i will spend no more than $4,000 in parts. The body of the van is great and everything else works.

So does anyone know the 7.5 V8 would fit? if not I guess I would have to go with the 5.8 V8.

Any suggestions?

I never heard of anyone putting a 7.5L in an E-series, but it should fit if you can put a 7.3L Diesel in them.

I would go for the 5.8L

I like to keep in running on gas. Here is NY its hard to find Diesel fuel.
Only reason i picked 7.5L V8 is just because its only 300 bucks more then the 4.9L. I mean for 300 bucks why not put in the biggest thing I can find.

So am i correct to assume I need a new computer and a transmission to go with the 7.5 V8?

Any think is possible As long as you have the time and money. But why the 7.5 and not a 5.8 like MM sugested. If it is the horse power do the reserch to see wich has more. That 7.5 is going to guzzel gas.

If you go with the 5.8L, you will find parts are more abundant and cheaper. You will also get better fuel mileage as 94 4X4 Ranger said. I think the 5.8L will bolt up to your existing transmission, but you will need to replace the wiring (engine) harness and PCM.

i only looked into the 7.5 because the price of the motor was just few hudreds more. but i will look into the 5.8l v8 also.
Does anyone know the 5.8l will mate withe the C6 transmission or will it need the 4R70W? cause i may just look into getting another van if i got to spend another 2000 on a rebuild transmission.

[X(]Just an opinion so take it with a grain of salt: You are tossing out an engine that is considered one of the best ever made. That six was built for decades and I'm envious. My 97 never had the option for it. The weight of the engine you plan on, will also require suspension work on a E150. If you want to hot rod a van, be prepaired to spend a lot more then $300..

i dont want a hot rod van. i just wish the van had little more power. maybe it is because the current motor is not 100%. but i feel like i have to floor the gas to get the van moving. i am looking into the 5.8l right now just waiting for the shop to let me know if the C6 transmission will fit. i think the 7.5l is just wishful thinking like most ppl here suggested it won't work. or i dont want to pay the money to make it work.
