96 E350 Club Wagon-Added Shoe Lace To Protect Front Seat Belts Stand Up Latches Suppo
Hi, thought I'd share a fix for this problem of the front seat belt "Stand Up" Latches Support being vulnerable to Damage or if already torn, for anyone interested.
When I got the van, both front seat belt latches, had torn/split plastic at their base, from them being bent too far down or stepped on over the years. Also if yours are already torn, this fix should keep them standing up.
I was lucky enough to find the same color replacements at the salvage yard which were Not damaged-yet... only a matter of time.
SO I realized adding these shoe laces to the seat's plastic side shield, using 2 of it's oem screws, will protect the seat latches from being stepped on/bend down and torn/split in the future. I just simply tied a knot onto the screw and cut leaving just a tad.
I did have to add a longer screw to one of the 2 holes on one of the seat belts. The oem screws are very short and the seat side shield plastic is kind of thick.
I also had trouble getting the screws to go back in straight into the hole, with the shoe lace interfering some.
But it was doable. Yet if I come upon some better cord which is thinner, or a thin coated wire, I will keep it to use if the shoe laces wear out.
The shoe lace has to be fairly tight, so not too much slack, to keep the latches protected in their upright positions.
The lace works in max forward or backwards positions and is a success.
See pic attached of one seat done.
Take care
Looks like it'll work. I would have used paracord as it is thinner, stronger, and comes in a multitude of colors, but then again I have a ton of paracord in many colors at my disposal. Lol
Yes paracord but I didn't have any black and didn't want to buy just for the little needed.
I'll run across some scraps in the future and keep it as a replacement if the shoe lace gets ugly.
