Default ABS light on - 95 Ford E150 conversion van

Hello,

My name is Casey, I'm new to this forum and have a problem. I have a 1995 E150 conversion van by Glaval Universal. Everytime I drive, the ABS light constantly comes on whether driving in city streets or on freeways. Sometimes the ABS light comes on a 1/2 hour later when driving, other times immediately after starting the van. At times the light will turn off by itself, only to come on again later.

Here's the strange part: nobody can figure out the problem! I bought the van used from a local dealer, and their mechanic can't figure out the problem. My own mechanic of 25 years who has worked on many cars can't solve it. I took it to WheelWorks, and they don't have an answer.

Finally, in desperation, I went to a local Ford dealer that's been in business for 40 years with a large service/repair dept. After a few days at the shop, their conclusion? Can't figure it out!! Actually, what the Ford dealer service rep told me is that they don't have the right older model diagnostic sensor tool that will fit into the plug of my van.

There is some type of module/cord coming out next to the battery, and the module won't fit into whatever sensor/diagnostic tool the Ford service dept has. They tell me my module is a bit too old, and they simply don't have the tool to diagnose the problem. They also claim they tried contacting other Ford dealers in the area, and nobody has the right tool.

I find it a bit unbelievable that 4 different mechanics, especially the Ford dealer service rep cannot tell me why the ABS light keeps coming on.

I even asked the Ford dealer rep to simply turn off the ABS light permanently so as not to annoy me, but they advised me it's too much trouble to do this because it might cause other problems. Oh brother.

Any ideas from anyone?

Thanks,
Casey

Not knowing how mechanically inclined you are or what equip you might have to work with, but a good portion of the time the ABS system is troubled by defective wheel speed sensors , poor connections involving them or wiring that may have rubbed through and partially opened or contacted something it should not have. Are you able to do any of your own work?

Hi Hanky,

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, I'm not mechanically inclined, so no can do for me.
