Default electrical help

ok Guys, got a problem maybe you guys can shed some light on for me. 2003 ford E 250 4.6 v875,000 miles cargo van only options aretilt wheel, and am fm stereo 2 speakers in doors, a/c,has factorytow packagethat I have not even used yet. 4 wheel disc brakes. Mechanic says Alternator shorted out melted thewiring harness that goes to the alternator.and that it is common problem on these vans is this true? I bought aextended warranty when I purchased the van so,they replaced the alternator. thats fixed. Now my transmission shifts first to second gear only prior to the alternator going out it shifted fine. Has anyone heard of this happening on these vans? I believe the ECU is fried now.Can someone tell me where theECU islocated on the van? I don't have a repair manual yet. Guess I will have to replace it. prior to all of the above happening I noticed I had no parking lights or tail lights 20 amp fuse, I put a new one in it blew, I put a second one in it blew something is crossed somewhere. Mechanic is searching fora short. Any help or information on the abovewould be appreciated thanks. Razer...............
