fuel pumps
replaced the main inline high pressure fuel pump with an Oreilly auto parts hight pressure one and with about 40 miles on it seems to overheat and not pump.
Was the ford dealer correct that I have to pay 536.00 dollers for a genuwine ford part or do I have other problems to. Orielly was $100.oo.

1990 e-150 club van, 350, auto, two tanks, still cannot feed from rear tank but I know that I have to empty tank, (got the gas cap off and letting it evaporate. inhot temps should not take long). when it runs it goe like a house afire. but only goes about 20 miles before it shuts down. two seperate mechanics have worked on it and cannot figure it out. BUT both mechanics have gotten rust out of the rear tank. Lots of rust, that is why draining and cleaning both taniks is next, but I wanted to know it might be the pump.
Those models have a low pressure pump in each tank and a high press pump on the left side chassis rail. If there is crap getting into the filter and restricting the flow the hi press pump will be starving for fuel. It would pay to invest in a fuel system pressure gauge to know where you stand when it decides to quit. At this point are you sure it is a fuel problem and not an electrical / spark problem?
, first drop the rear tank, get fuel pump sending unit out, replace the low pressure pump inside tank,im sure the rubber connector on the pump is swollen and broken and pump is dead, tank is probably toast also with rust, i replaced tank, inside pump, external pump, sending unit and lines, eliminated front tank no more transfer valve to worry about only have rear tank now,ran direct manual 12v switch for fuel pumps, though i couldd of wired it to the fuel pump relay, left transfer valve harness plugged so the fuel gauge would work, selector switch under dash is on rear always.as i only have the rear tank connected i made both new return and main feed lines,,,,check that u have 12 volts going to both pumps at same time, so with switch on rear tank u should have 12v on main and 12v at rear tank for internal pump, the front tank is an overkill, not needed, and that valve is something i didnt want to deal with my mod simplifies everything, you probably want to keep ur front tank but hey thats my route and im happy with it, i should of kept that front tank and made it a storage box for tools with a trap door inside the van on the floor lol, but now i also have alot of room if i want to move an exhaust pipe down that side
