idle trouble

I have a 1999 econoline custom van. It starts but won't idle. Stays started for about 2 secs. ANY ideas?

How about a little more info?
What engine?
Gas or diesel?
Recent maintenance ?
What if anything have you tried so far?
Present mileage ?

6.0 diesel

We have a 6.0 l Diesel when cold in AM (60 deg.) and we start it up and take off quickly it stumbles and low power for about 2-3 min and than it smooths out alls good the rest of the day.? Have heard that we should be using OEM oil filters that would do away with that problem is that true?
