Ignition Problem
I have a 1990 Econoline 150 and the ignition has been hard to start for a few months now. Yesterday when i went to start it i had my boyfriend do it because i couldn't and now the whole key just spins in the ignition without any resistance and I'm pretty much stuck. Trying to find out the problem over the phone doesn't seem to be working with the local mechanics so if anyone has an idea about what it is I'd be grateful. Couldn't i just get a whole new ignition system installed?
There are two possibilities.
The first one can be easily corrected by replacing the ignition key tumbler section where you insert the key.
The other possibility could be the link down to the switch assy mounted on the steering column maybe disconnected for some reason. Usually if the tumbler section is good you can't rotate the key as you state. So I would think you could solve the problem by just changing the tumbler assy, Not that difficult to do.
