mysterious coolant leak
hi,i'm back but with a different vehicle now.2008 e250 coolant leak at the right hand side rear.when i first discovered it i was hard to find and was noticed at the same spot so i thought because of the tilt back on the engine.i found that the heater hose wasn't pushed all the way onto the nipple and was exposed to the elements and had a rust hole in it,really smart ford putting a steel nipple into an aluminum hole and have air and water get to it..unbelievable!.why couldn't it just all be aluminum?anyway.i was mad cause i just bought the van 2 years ago and thought this was going to be a big job replacing the whole coolant crossover thing.it turned out i got lucky and i was able to go past the rust hole and clamp the hose over it.now i have noticed the seeping getting worse.it takes a lot of work to take that apart and replace the seal.can i use a safe sealant to add to the coolant that can help?alumaseal would be great i think because it works in all brass radiators but this is plastic, aluminum and gasket and am not sure coz you know what it's like trying to seal a plastic to aluminum radiator.i might be wrong about the crossover being aluminum,i don't remember it's been a hile since i last looked at it,lol!..thanks.
Suggest you clean the area thoroughly and run the engine and see if you can verify where the leak is .Some had plastic manifolds and if your vehicle has one AND you can prove it is leaking, replacement is the only option.
