Default Rough ride to smooth ride

I currently own a 2000 E150 Club Wagon which rides very smooth and the leaf springs are rated at 1600 lbs/side.
I recently purchased a 2013 E150 Cargo which rides rougher and more stiff and the leaf springs are rated at 2700 lbs/side.
I use a wheelchair and sit just in front of the rear bench so a smooth ride is important to me.
Anyhow, if I changed the leaf springs to the 1600 lbs/side or even 2000 lbs/side will this effect the stability, driving or overall safety of the van?
If I do the change can I expect a smoother ride?

Thanks, Paul
